Why Leopard print looks good at any age

It's not what you wear, it's how you style it. The key to wearing it well isn't down to the pieces, but the attitude behind them.

Print is king for AW16 and whilst there is alot of talk about zebra prints and cowhide spots, our much-loved leopard print never goes out of style. There's something deliciously devilish about leopard print. Bypass the jokes about Bet Lynch and Pat Butcher and you've got the perfect statement print. It defies trends and crazes, sitting perfectly in your forever wardrobe like a faithful friend.

Loved by Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Jacqueline Kennedy it works in any season and can be dressed up or down - whatever your age. To reinforce Kate's love for Leopard print, she has just designed a capsule collection for brand Equipment and of course there is alot of Leopard print involved.

I think it's time we started celebrating the timeless fabulousness of this faithful friend. With this in mind, here are my styling notes when wearing the lovely leopard print...

1. Put your best foot forward

Animal print shoes are an easy way to wear the print without investing too much money or coverage on your body. Printed trainers or boots are a fun way to inject day looks with some style and character. Add some pointy pumps to your evening wear and it will give any unexpected kick to any black dress or skinny jeans and top combo.

2. A coat is a classic trophy item

Throwing on a leopard print coat is short cut to looking elegant but not too prim. Edgy but not too thought-out. I love my leopard print fut coat and every year wear it in the evening, to the pub of even over long black dresses. It looks great paired with black, but don't shy away from other colours as leopard print and yellow make a lovely combination too.

3. Accessories are key

This season I am obsessed with finding the perfect leopard print bag. Forget the fact that I already own a clutch bag in leopard print, a shopper in leopard print and come to think about it maybe a couple more sitting in their dustbags too...I would love a cross over body bag. It will go with all my coats and it become my new best friend.

4. Don't skirt around the issue

Still bang on trend for this AW16 and not going away is the skirt. Paired simply with a black top, denim shirt or sweater and biker jacket you can update your look with one simple printed piece.

Wardrobe essential- Edits guide to winter coats 2014

Winter coats are a wardrobe essential when the weather cools down, and what better time to get one than now, is the heating on yet?

See my gallery of the best winter coats to buy now and why they keep you on trend this winter season.

1. Pink is sticking around - Whistles Ira textured coat £325

Oversized pink coats make us feel a bit like a heroine in a Sixties kitchen sink drama. This one is a thick wool blend and has that fluffy boucle effect which always looks so good with a bouffant, kitten heels and swingy nana handbag.

2. Check this out - Hobbs Raven Coat £289

This check duster coat gives a slightly preppy, slightly tomboy vibe and I love the boyfriend shape. Turn up the collar and off set with jeans and a plain knit.

3. Going Glam - Unreal Fur £ 185 - The Dressing Room

Nothing says American Hustle chic meets a/w 2014 like groovy faux fur. Sure, it’s fairly useless in the rain – but whenever you wear it you will look utterly fabulous. Sometimes, that’s all that counts.

4. Pale and Interesting - French Connection £195

This colour will go nicely with crisp autumn skies as well as the greys that abound in the shops just now. We do love the way a cocoon coat instantly fashions up an outfit, even if it’s only jeans, a jumper and brogues.

5.  The 90s DB - Topshop £95

The 90s double breasted coat is back on the scene again this season. Be sure you belt up so you aren't swimming in excess fabric. Fashion continues its snuggly love-in with fluffy, furry and fuzzy and brings this style bang up to date.

Edits view on J Crew's new London store

Nina heads to the capital for the eagerly awaited opening of the US retailer's first UK store...

J Crew's brand new London store opened last week on Regent Street

J Crew's brand new London store opened last week on Regent Street

J Crew has become one of America’s biggest retail success stories. But for anyone who hasn’t heard of the store be sure that you will be hearing a lot more about it over the next few years. It’s a more style conscious, purse friendly version of Ralph Lauren. So why go and visit it I hear you cry? Well, purely for the gorgeous clothes and the vision of creative director Jenna Lyons.

Jenna has become a fashion icon since climbing the ladder from one of the J Crew design team to the top spot. She has taken the brand from preppy zero to preppy cool. She regularly tops best dressed lists and there are countless sites dedicated to her stylish personal wardrobe. Her style is all about breaking the rules, layering patterns and colours together such as a bright sequin skirt teamed with a white shirt or printed cocktail trousers with a stripe work shirt.  Known for her clashing prints, colours and quirky style, here she gives us her 10 fashion commandments

JCrew Necklace.jpg

From candy-coloured cashmere basics with a twist of embellishment to tailored blazers, J Crew bridges the gap between high street and designer with ease. The price reflects this, J Crew is not cheap, and continues to be cheaper in the US than the UK. This necklace for example is around £150 - quite extravagant for customers expecting to save on the exchange rate benefits. But you have to admit it is fabulous and the store invites you in like it’s your new best friend, warm, friendly and enticing.

Other gems of the collection include this on-trend pink over-coat that is sure to keep you warm all winter.

Embellishment was seen everywhere on clothing to footwear, and these pumps definitely got a big thumbs up from me.

Mannequins showed you how to adopt the J Crew layering formula of shirt, necklace, jean jacket and trousers throughout the store.

For me, the statement necklaces (£49.95) are an instant outfit maker, applying them directly over an understated tee (£24.95).
